Chef José Andrés New Book Change the Recipe Offers 'Advice From a Lifetime of Cooking' (Exclusive)

Chef José Andrés knows that “every dish has its own story.” And according to him, the same can be said for “every chef”.

He is now seven months away from the release of his upcoming book, Change the recipeThe 55-year-old humanitarian, TV host and Michelin-starred chef reveals the cover of his next offering exclusively with PEOPLE. And this time there are plenty of stories to share.

Change the recipeAndrés’ next book, due out under HarperCollins Ecco in April 2025, is categorized as a “collection of life lessons” from the renowned chef, offering “teachable moments that are funny, poignant and insightful, animated by the belief that food can bring us together and that each of us can change the world for the better.”

“Written in José’s unmistakable voice, Change the recipe is a collection of José’s most memorable and powerful life lessons: the hard-won wisdom of a man who has dedicated his life to changing the world through the power of food,” reads the book’s description.

As Andrés exclusively tells PEOPLE in a statement, a person “can learn so much about life in the hustle and bustle of the kitchen,” and can also learn about others “by sharing a meal with them.”

“This book is a collection of my stories and advice from a lifetime of cooking and feeding the world around me,” he says. “Life can be messy, but it can also be a joy. I know that as a chef, when things don’t go your way, you have to adapt. You have to show what you can do, on the fly, in real time. You might have to break some rules, or you might have to change the recipe.”

“Because you can’t make an omelet or build a better world without breaking eggs,” he added.

The cover of the founder’s latest book, The World Central Kitchen, which features an illustration of a cracked egg, sums up what Andrés is aiming for with his next read: A project that draws on his life experiences (“from the kitchen to war zones,” as the descriptive notes) to offered readers and fans of his work some fresh insight.

Andrés is no stranger to publishing, with his latest titles including those from 2019 We Fed the Island: The True Story of Puerto Rico’s Rebuilding, One Meal at a Timein 2019 Vegetables Unleashed and Zaytinyawhich was published back in March.

Aside from his latest book news, it’s been a big month for Andrés, who was recently recruited by Prince William’s Earthshot Prize to join its Earthshot Prize Council alongside activists Wanjira Mathai and Nemonte Nenquim. As previously announced, the council selects winners of its $1 million Earthshot Award in five categories, which aim to promote impactful approaches to environmental challenges.
