Chelsea Handler, an American television personality and comedian, broke up with Jo Koy. On July 18, just days before their first anniversary, the 47-year-old announced on Instagram that she and Koy were “taking a break” from their romance. She shared a video of the two of them preparing for their first anniversary. It was accompanied by a lengthy commentary in which she talked about how being with him changed her life experience forever and “restored” her trust in men. She stated:
“Yo- you fired my imagination, reawakened my desire to work hard and travel again, and you reminded me of who I was and who I always have been, and my feet have never been more sure on the ground.”
Despite the divorce, Handler remained optimistic, claiming that ending their relationship meant a fresh start for both of them. She also wished Koya well and informed him that his “person is on the way”. Chelsea Handler revealed her romance with Jo Koy via Instagram in September 2021.

Jo Koy and Chelsea Handler were friends for 20 years before their relationship developed. The two met on Handler’s late night show E! series Chelsea Lately, where Koy was a regular guest. When Handler posted a video of herself hanging out with Koya in June 2021, it raised doubts about the relationship. Three months later, Handler announced on social media that she was in love with “the best person there is.”
Handler then uploaded a photo of the two kissing under a street light, but did not reveal Koy’s identity at that point. The couple raves about each other in public and in interviews, often expressing gratitude that their relationship has blossomed into something significant.
Koy discussed his connection with his “wonderful” Chelsea on Good Morning Washington.
“I love her, man.” She is amazing. She’s the boss. There is nothing better than falling in love with someone you have known for a long time. I always had her back and she always had mine. It’s just a fantastic feeling to finally discover love, especially with someone I’ve admired for a long time.”
Chelsea Handler claimed at the People’s Choice Awards in December 2021 that she was the one who made the initial romantic move in her relationship with Jo Koy, saying he was too “nice” to ask her. She stated:
“Yo, what’s up?” I finally asked. ‘Are you in love with me or not?’ Then I followed him.”
Chelsea Handler has previously been linked to Ted Herbert, André Balazs and rapper 50 Cent.
