Chhaya has a sister named Pooja Tandon and non-biological siblings named Rasha Thadani and Ranbir Thadani. In 1995, Chhaya and Pooja were adopted by Raveena Tandon. In an interview, Raveena spoke about the unusual behavior of her guardians towards Jaya and Pooja and she decided to adopt the two girls and give them a better life. she says,

My cousin died, leaving behind two young daughters, Chaya and Pooja. I didn’t like the way their guardians treated them, so I took them home. I didn’t think much about it. This comes naturally to me.
