Chilling letter evil Ian Huntley wrote to daughter revealed as she brands him ‘pitiful, twisted, manipulative coward’

SOHAM killer Ian Huntley wrote a chilling letter to his daughter refusing to meet her – thwarting her bid to learn the truth about the murders that shocked the nation.

Samantha Bryan, 26, asked to visit her father at Frankland Prison in Durham in the hope that he could finally persuade him to reveal what happened when he murdered schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002.

Huntley was a school janitor in East Cambridgeshire when he abducted and murdered a 10-year-old girl in one of Britain’s most notorious crimes.

But in a cryptic letter Huntley, who is serving a life sentence, replied: “Given the likely length of my future and your current motives, I doubt there will be enough time for a significant change in circumstances for us to ever meet”.

Samantha, from Cleethorpes, Lincs, now wonders if time is running out for Huntley.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun on Sunday, she exploded: “He has shown himself to be a miserable, twisted, manipulative coward.

“There are so many other things I could call him. I feel contempt.

“His letter left me with even more questions than before.

“Maybe he’s sick, but I don’t know for sure given that he wrote about the likely length of his future. I don’t know what that means.

“But if he’s sick, you’d certainly want to give some answers – you’d have nothing left to lose. Or maybe he means the length of his sentence.

“But one thing is clear — he will not meet with me.

“I never thought about forgiveness, but part of me hoped that he could tell at least part of the truth.

“Maybe he doesn’t want to give answers because that’s the only way he can get attention.”

Huntley, now 50, told the court that both girls died accidentally, claiming that Holly had drowned in the bathtub and that he had accidentally suffocated Jessica while trying to stifle her screams.

But in 2018 he admitted he had deliberately killed Jessica to stop her from raising the alarm about Holly’s death.

‘Part of me is sad’

Samantha wrote him a request to meet with him because she was afraid that time might be running out because he allegedly had health problems and was subjected to violent attacks in prison.

He also attempted suicide.

She believes his handwritten response is selfish.

Samantha said: “I think whatever opinion people have of him, he doesn’t want to make things worse for himself. That’s a coward.

“Part of me imagined sitting face to face with him and what he would say.

“Part of me was terrified. I’ve had nightmares about him since I was little. I still get them.

“So, in one sense, a part of me was relieved. Part of me is angry. Part of me is sad that he won’t give answers. Part of me still needs answers.

“I have to accept that it won’t happen. That’s hard.”

Samantha was 14 years old when she accidentally found out that Huntley was her father.

While researching a school crime project, she looked up Huntley’s name on her classroom computer and saw a pixelated photo of herself.

She revealed that her mother, Katie Bryan, 46, claimed she met him as a 15-year-old schoolgirl and they became involved when she was under the legal age of consent.

Katie claims that their relationship turned violent, culminating in the act of rape while she was getting out of the bathtub, which is why she bravely waived her anonymity.

She also claims he made her eat cat food when she burned his dinner, cut her hair so other men wouldn’t admire her and pushed her down the stairs when she was pregnant with Samantha.

I feel like he was trying to manipulate and put a barrier between me and my mom and make me question what she told me.

That was the catalyst for her to leave him.

However, Huntley denied in his letter that he had ever hurt her.

Samantha said: “I was stunned when I read it.

“The whole point was to discuss the possibility of our meeting.

“It had nothing to do with my mom and there was no need to drag her into it at all.

“It confirms his shitty character.

“I feel like he was trying to manipulate and put a barrier between me and my mom and make me question what she told me.

“But I don’t doubt her. I saw my mother’s emotions when she told me what happened. You can’t fake something like that.”

Samantha added: “I was hoping to get answers for myself but also for Holly and Jessica’s families.

“I am deeply concerned that they did not have answers. But his answer is so conclusive that I will now retire and give up hope.

“I must retire—for the sake of my sanity and my future.”

‘His scribbles show he’s scared’

HUNTLEY’S repetition of pen strokes in his letter shows that he is unsure of his actions.

He is used to being judged and worried that he is not too bright, but he can avoid any responsibility for his own actions.

Tangled lines indicate a character with poor judgment and planning.

He is very used to hiding how he really feels.

Occasionally a letter slanted to the left indicates a controlled and controlling man. He is self-centered and selfish.
