Chilling moment footballer strangles girlfriend before she jumped 14ft from balcony to escape him

THIS is the chilling moment a vile footballer strangles his girlfriend before she throws herself off a 14ft balcony to escape – breaking both her arms.

Twisted Shaquille McDonald told Amy Beckley “I’m going to put you to sleep” after he caught her talking to a bouncer she knows.

Hard-to-watch CCTV shows McDonald, 28, lunging at Amy, pinning her against the wall by the neck in her flat.

The patient then dragged her to the floor during the attack before repeatedly choking her on the bed.

Amy said she had only been dating the abuser for six weeks before the brutal attack in Birmingham this year.

During that time, she said the former Derby County and Birmingham City footballer “love bombed” her with gifts and affection.

But on March 3, the couple were on a night out at the Arcadian nightclub when McDonald flew into a jealous rage.

He took Amy’s phone and keys, calling her “a liar and stupid” for talking to a bouncer she knew through her work at the fire brigade.

Twisted McDonald then punched Amy in the head and forced her into a taxi.

He bit her face, scratched and slapped her on the way home.

Back at her flat in the early hours of the morning, McDonald continued to beat Amy and grab her by the throat as the attack escalated.

Amy told BirminghamLive: “He then came out and grabbed my phone, grabbed me by the neck and dragged me into the flat.

– He smashed my head against the concrete wall. Then I fell to the floor.

Amy was then thrown onto the bed and strangled to the point where she lost consciousness.

How you can get help

Women’s Aid has the following advice for victims and their families:

  • Always keep your phone nearby.
  • Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine.
  • If you are in danger, call 999.
  • Learn about the silent solution, by reporting abuse without speaking into the handset, instead of dialing “55”.
  • Always have some cash with you, including change for a payphone or bus ticket.
  • If you suspect that your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a less risky part of the house – for example, where there is an exit and access to a telephone.
  • Avoid the kitchen and garage, where knives or other weapons are likely to be found. Avoid rooms where you could become trapped, such as a bathroom or where you could be locked in a closet or other small space.

McDonald stopped, before repeating it for longer, and screamed, “I’m going to put you to sleep, there’s nothing you can do.”

Recalling the horror, Amy added: “I was trying to catch my breath four times.

“I managed to get one leg free and used it to get us to the floor.

– Then I screamed my son’s name, got up and ran.

Terrified that he was going to kill her, she threw herself off the balcony and fell onto the neighbor’s terrace, under which she then helped her.

When police arrived at the scene, a pathetic McDonald was heard saying “Fuck me”.

The coward then tried to run from officers, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

The court heard how Amy, then 29, suffered “a number of significant injuries” as a result of the attack.

It is about two elbow fractures, facial injuries and arm and leg injuries as a result of the attack and fall.

It was revealed in court that McDonald – who was languishing in the eighth tier of English football with non-league Mickleover FC – was fined in 2017 for a similar attack on an ex-girlfriend.

Sentencing him, Judge John Butterfield KC told the vicious McDonald: “You need a thorough examination of your attitude towards women and your appalling jealousy.”

On October 20, McDonald was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after admitting actual bodily harm and strangulation.

Since the attack, Amy has been unable to return to her job at the fire service and move out of her apartment due to terrifying memories.

She added: “I’m going to have to live with this forever. It made me really wary of everyone, especially men.

“It shattered my trust and completely shattered my confidence.”
