Chinki Yadav is an Indian professional shooter who shot to fame after qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Chinki Yadav was born in 1998 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (age 21; as of 2019). She has been passionate about shooting since she was a child. Chinki is a day boarder and popular in his school in Bhopal. Chinki and her family used to live in the Tatya Tope Stadium in Bhopal.

Chinki Yadav comes from a financially challenged family. Chinki’s father Mehtab Singh Yadav is an electrician from Bhopal and has been working in the sports department for the past 23 years. Her mother is a housewife. Chinki has a younger brother who is also a promising shooter from Madhya Pradesh.

The Rise of the Shooting Champion
Chinki Yadav grew up watching shooting competitions. She became interested in the sport herself because her family lived on a shooting range. Recalling the day Chinki joined the shooting academy in 2012, Chinki’s father Mehtab Singh Yadav said:
Because my home is in a stadium, Chinki often sees other people playing different games. She wants to go to summer camp. I had no idea that this decision was made by a star in my family. “
Soon after joining the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy, Chinki started catching the eye of the coach. Chinki was one of the few shooters selected for the shooting academy after a talent search. Chinki went on to win a medal at the national championships. She spent most of her time at the shooting academy.

Feeling happy and inspired by Chinki’s inspiring performance, her father Mehtab Singh Yadav also admitted his younger son into the academy. However, Mehtab Singh admitted that none of this would be possible without help from the athletic department. He said,
Shooting is an expensive sport and I simply cannot afford to pay for a gun and ammunition out of my pocket. My family is very grateful to the athletic department. “

Chinki Yadav secured India’s 11th Tokyo Olympics shooting quota after qualifying for the women’s 25m pistol final of the 14th Asian Championships in Doha on November 8, 2019. She shot a perfect 100 in the qualifying round and finished second with a score of 588, behind Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon (590).

Earlier, Chinki won a gold medal in 25m pistol at the National Shooting Trials held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi and a team silver medal at the 19th Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship.
She set a new record and won the gold medal at the 61st National Shooting Championships held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from December 11 to 31, 2017, with 50 in the final round. The 31 hits set a new national record.
