Chipotle Brought Back This Protein After ‘Three Times More Requests’ Than Any Other Menu Item

Run, don’t walk: Chipotle’s chicken al pastor is back.

The burrito chain’s chicken al pastor is returning to all restaurants in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe starting Tuesday, but for a limited time only.

The tasty protein option was briefly on menus around the world in March 2023 and stuck around until August. Since it was removed from the menu last summer, fans have flooded the fast food restaurant’s social media platforms with requests to bring back the meal.

“There were three times more requests to ‘bring back Chicken al Pastor’ on social media than any other limited edition in the brand’s history,” according to a press release.

Customers went crazy for the grilled chicken marinated with paprika, pineapple, lime juice and cilantro, so much so that one in five transactions involved chicken al pastor when it was on the menu, the company added.

Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief brand officer, said, “Given the performance and fans so enthusiastic about its return, we’re thrilled to make this item the fastest to ever return to Chipotle.”

It is not clear how long proteins will remain on menus.

The most popular chicken al pastor entrée in 2023 was a burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, tomato salsa, roasted corn salsa, cheese and guacamole. It is now available for online ordering as the “Most Ordered Chicken al Pastor Bowl.”
