‘Chivalrous’ N.Y.C. Subway Rat Caught on Camera Bringing a Donut to Rodent Friend

The only thing sweeter than a donut is…a rat bringing it to his rodent girlfriend.

In a viral TikTok shared by user @smallredcar, a rat in a Manhattan subway station looks like it has a dessert date planned.

The rodent at the beginning of the clip drags a glazed donut along subway tracks, worthy of comparison to the famous pizza rat from 2015. But this rat doesn’t want their treat. Later in the video, a rat runs with a donut in its mouth before another rat jumps out, and then they both grab the donut and enjoy it together.

“Some men in this town need chivalry lessons,” wrote Carly Hittner on the video’s poster, who shared the clip on TikTok on Wednesday, “Doughnut rat treats his wife better than half you other rats in this town.”

Commenters agreed, with one user writing “true breadwinner” and another adding “high value man.” Tinder’s official account even commented, “Now that’s romance.” As of Friday afternoon, the TikTok video had more than 2.4 million views.

Pizza Rat went viral eight years ago when a New York City subway rider filmed a rodent carrying an entire slice of pizza down the stairs of a subway station and shared the footage on social media. Other animals have followed the viral snacking suit, like a rat caught on camera carrying a McMuffin in 2020.
