Choco Tacos Are Coming Back Nationwide Thanks to Taco Bell and Salt & Straw

Taco Bell will fill the Choco Taco-sized hole in your heart.

The ice cream truck’s staple is being discontinued in July 2022, but the fast food spot is bringing its take on Klondike’s Choco Taco this summer with the help of Salt & Straw,

Taco Bell is teaming up with the Portland-based ice cream brand to create their version of the favorite treat.

The taco shells are made from waffle cones, just like the original, and filled with cinnamon-chili ice cream instead of the vanilla with chocolate rings that the discontinued version had. The dessert is dipped in chocolate and topped with fried brown rice, not the OG peanut chunks.

And there’s another twist on the nostalgic treat: dip packets. Just like the Mexican hot sauce chain’s fast-casual options, the Choco Taco will be served with custom sauce packets. Some of the flavors have spice, like chocolate chili or mango jalapeño, but the cinnamon berry has less spice. In addition, the dessert is served with cheesecake sauce.

The dessert will be available nationwide at Salt & Straw’s scoop shops and online for nationwide delivery, according to Salt & Straw’s Instagram. Although the exact date has not been confirmed, the announcement says that they are coming this summer.

The internet was on fire after Choco Tacos were discontinued in 2022. At the time, Chrissy Teigen shared a screenshot of PEOPLE’s story confirming the news on her Instagram Story along with her own reaction.

“Everyone always takes this crap for granted when it’s around. Never choose it over a Snickers ice cream bar so that’s what you’re gonna get, don’t cry now,” Teigen wrote. “You never cared before. You don’t deserve him!!!”

Choco Taco. Klondike Fruit Stripe gum discontinued after 5 decades as fans lament: ‘A piece of my childhood just died’

Similarly, Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis star Serena Williams, proposed his plan to Twitter in order to keep the tasty delicacy on the market.

“Darling @Unilever — I would like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and preserve it from the childhood of future generations, Ohanian wrote.

A few weeks after the heartbreaking announcement, a rep for Klondike confirmed to PEOPLE that there are plans to bring it back.

“We knew Choco Taco was a fan favorite, and the decision to discontinue the product was a difficult one to make,” the ice cream brand said in a statement to PEOPLE. “The overwhelming support for Choco Taco has certainly made us rethink our long-term plans.”

“The team is working on a plan to bring him back, although it may take some time,” they added. “There are currently no specific timelines for Choco Taco’s return.”
