Chopt Restaurant Sued After Woman Was Allegedly Served a Human Finger in Her Salad

A Chopta customer filed a complaint against the salad chain alleging that she was served a salad with a piece of a human finger in it.

Greenwich, Connecticut resident Allison Cozzi purchased contaminated lettuce at a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, NY, on April 7, 2023, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

“While eating the salad, she realized that she was chewing part of a human finger that had been mixed into the salad and became part of that salad,” the complaint states.

The documents state that an unidentified manager at the restaurant accidentally cut off a piece of her finger while chopping arugula. After the manager went to the hospital, the contaminated lettuce was served to customers.

The Westchester County Health Department investigated the incident and fined the site, according to News12 Westchester. Chopt did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Cozzi suffered injuries such as shock, panic attacks, migraines, cognitive impairment, nausea, dizziness and neck and shoulder pain as a result of eating the contaminated salad, according to the complaint.

Cozzi’s attorney, Marc Reibman, told PEOPLE that she would not be commenting further.

She doesn’t want to add to the stress and anxiety this incident has caused her, Reibman said. “As required by New York law, her lawsuit does not contain a dollar amount for the monetary damages she seeks. As a matter of common sense and public interest, the failure to supervise the preparation and service of food in a manner that protects the public is a clear departure from accepted safe practice and deserves significant compensation.”
