Chris Evans Says Wife Alba Baptista Is ‘Really Big Into First Impressions’: ‘I’m Not So Much’

Chris Evans says that first impressions are important to wife Alba Baptista.

The actor, 42, made rare comments about Baptista during an interview with GQ, published on Tuesday. The interview was conducted before the actors’ strike, which began in July – and before the couple tied the knot in Massachusetts earlier this month.

in GQ Evans recalled how Baptisti, 26, said he wanted to act less to devote his energies to other parts of his life. The Portuguese actress is known for films like Mrs. Harris is going to Paris and the Netflix series Warrior Nun.

“I haven’t worked all year and I don’t plan to, which was nice,” he said. “My girlfriend that I had for a while, when we started dating, I said, ‘Yeah, I do one movie a year. Now I try never to work.’ ”

But Evans recalled that after that he spent all of 2022 working on three films (Witty, Pain Fraudsters and Red).

“And then after about a few months of dating, boom, guess what? We’ve been living in Atlanta for a year. Get ready,” he recalled. “And even as that year was happening, I was like, ‘man, never again.’ ”

GQZach Baron included an exchange he had with Evans in which the actor mentioned Baptista again.

Baron asked him, “You mentioned writers trying to put you in one box or another. Do you feel like I’m trying to do that to you?”

Evans replied: “No, not at all. Not at all. In fact, it’s so funny. My girlfriend really likes other people’s energy and first impressions.”

“I’m not really that much, because I feel like I’m not always giving the same thing away at the door. So I try to hold back on being judgmental,” he continued. “But you had a very, very beautiful energy when you first came.”

Evans, currently the sexiest man alive, told PEOPLE in November why he wants to slow down with work.

“The most enjoyable aspect of my career right now is feeling safe enough to take my foot off the gas,” he said at the time. “I feel like I have a little more freedom to take time away from the industry and still find projects that will satisfy my creative appetite when I come back.”
