Chris Pine Defends His Teeny-Tiny Shorts: 'It’s Called a Short, Isn’t It?'

His little stitches were inspired by Tom Selleck and the “70s surfer vibe,” the actor told E! News

Chris Pine short shorts are here to stay.

The Don’t worry dear the actor, 43, opened up about his affinity for thigh-baring leggings in a new interview with E! News.

After hearing that a recent photo of himself in shorts had gone viral, Pine, who often sports super short inseams, replied: “Hell yeah” – and said he saw no need to justify his leggy appearance.

“I don’t think there’s anything to defend,” he told E! News. “It’s called a short film, right? It should be short.”

“Velvet shorts, short [shorts] … I mean, it’s the vibe. It’s the best vibe. It’s like a Tom Selleck vibe. It’s like [a] Surfer atmosphere of the 70s,” he said, adding that he prefers that “atmosphere” much more than long pants.

Besides Magnum, PI icon, Pine also compared the shorts to retro sports uniforms.

“It’s like Showtime — the Lakers,” he told the outlet. “Would you rather see them in shorts and Magic Johnson looking like a basketball player, an athlete, instead of wearing some kind of capris or something on the floor? No. So, I’m going to wear shorts.”

But for how long, exactly? Well, at least “until the legs go,” Pine said.

It’s recent Dungeons & Dragons star also addressed another aspect of his style — his hair, which he chopped off shortly after appearing at last year’s Venice International Film Festival.

In March, The Princess Diaries alum told Esquire that his long hair era ended while he was at the festival for the world premiere Don’t worry dear.

“I thought I looked pretty, pretty, my hair was long, everything was going on, and my publicist said I looked like Rachel from Friends“, Pine revealed.

“I couldn’t help but hear it,” he said of the comparison. “It was the first day and my first time in Venice…”, pointing to jet lag and other distractions that occurred while promoting the thriller — like Harry Styles’ infamous viral “spitting” moment.

Last year, before chopping off his long hair, the actor revealed to PEOPLE that he was aware his hair had developed some fans, joking, “Robert Pattinson, watch out.”
