Chrishell Stause Shares ‘Scary’ Experience from When Her ‘Vintage’ Breast Implants Ruptured

Chrishell Stause gets candid about his 2024 medical experience.

On Sunday, September 15, Selling Sunset The 43-year-old star posted a video on Instagram talking about a “terrifying” experience earlier this year. Her 15-year-old breast implants ruptured and she underwent a medical procedure to remove the silicone and replace the implants.

“I think it’s just a mental block when you know your breast implants have ruptured,” Stause said at the start of the video. “It’s weird. I didn’t like the feeling that I might hurt my body.”

She originally had breast implants “about 15 years ago” by a surgeon who is no longer in practice, she said.

“So it’s been a while and I actually did one of those full body shots and realized they were cracked and [I] I needed to find a new surgeon who could remove all the silicone and replace my implants,” the reality star explained.

“I think that’s the scary part. It was actually a surprise to me,” she said of discovering her old implants had ruptured. – I didn’t feel any symptoms.

In retrospect, Stause realized there may have been signs she either missed or didn’t associate with a medical problem. She then thanked her surgeon, Dr. Josef Hadeed, with whom she collaborated on the video.

“When I met Dr. Hadeed, I was like, ‘Okay, I was in the best hands,'” she added, before noting that people with “old-fashioned” breast implants should get regular checkups. “I know a lot of people go through this. A lot of people may be living with them without knowing it.”

Stause hopes to destigmatize the experience, saying, “I feel like the whole process was a lot easier than I think I built it up to be. I was a little nervous, obviously, and it wasn’t as dramatic as I thought it was going to be.”

At the end of the video, the doctor noted that Stause’s new implants “look great,” two months after surgery.

The soap actress shared an emotional caption with the video, writing that she was scared when she became aware of her condition.

“My first thought was fear, thinking about having to have surgery and whether the rupture would lead to complications,” she wrote. “But I’m very happy to have found @josefhadeedmd and had an amazing experience with him and his team.”

She then added a message of self-empowerment, stating that “plastic surgery is a personal choice and I am in no way encouraging anyone to change anything about their body.” However, she continued to urge those who opt for cosmetic surgery to “stay on top of their health”.

Selling Sunset alum Heather Rae El Moussa commented on Stause’s news video, writing, “Oh, I’m so sorry that happened.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s common for people to experience no symptoms when their breast implant ruptures. However, some people experience “breast pain or changes in the shape of the breast”. Additional problems can occur when the “silicone leaks out of the implant,” leading to potential irritation and scar tissue. It is recommended that people undergo an imaging test about five years after having the implant, and then regularly every few years after that because “the longer the implant is in place, the more likely it is to rupture.”
