Nothing screams “I like tattoos” more than one on your face, but Mexican musician Christian Nodal only has them on his face. Now he has added another face tattoo to his collection. This time, it’s an homage to the state of Sonora in Mexico, as well as a local tribe.
Christian Nodal’s new face tattoo gives him a new look
On May 30, 2022, news spread across the internet that Nodal had fresh tattoos on his face. Several photos and videos of the artist with a fresh face painting went viral that day. On May 29, the process of getting fresh face tattoos began. He asked indigenous artist Nina Barnett to paint some temporary drawings over his face, going over the bridge of his nose, just before that night’s performance.
“The face paint he wears represents protection for warriors,” Barnett said of the design. The design is inspired by the tradition of the Comcaac people, an indigenous community from the Mexican state of Sonora. “The meaning I offered him while creating this artwork was to wish him luck in all his endeavors in life,” she said, adding that Nodal was a good guy who respected people.
His new tattoo, however, was not the same as the drawings Barnett had drawn on his face. However, he conveyed the ideas of the painting. The new ink is a line of six crimson, inverted triangles across the bridge of his nose. Nodal has yet to upload an Instagram photo with the tattoo, although he has shared a few selfies on his Instagram stories. His new design is clearly visible in these pictures and seems to match the tattoos behind his eyes exactly.

Why did Christian Nodal smear his face?
While Nodal has been tattooing his body in recent months, he has also been erasing and covering others. The tattoos that have been erased or covered are mostly of his ex-fiancée Belinda Peregrine. Nodal previously covered the tattoo of Belinda’s eyes on his chest. In April 2022, he announced that he had tattooed wings over his eyes, which covered a large part of his chest.
In February 2022, he also covered the ‘White’ design near the right ear. All of these additions and cover-ups are in keeping with the reason he started tattooing, namely facial tattoos. Getting his face tattooed, he told Life & Style, was a way to take his commitment to the next level. “I am raising my interests to a higher level.
