Cindy Crawford Doesn't Give Unsolicited Advice to Her Kids: ‘They’re Going to Get My Real Opinion’

Cindy Crawford is not in the business of giving unsolicited advice.

The supermodel, 58, opened up about motherhood on the Saturday, May 11, episode of Christy Turlington Burns and Kelly Corrigan’s new five-part podcast series, Kelly Corrigan Wonders: About your mother.

The podcast features guests including Jennifer Garner, Amy Schumer, Spike Lee and Bono revealing intimate details about their relationships with their mothers, with the goal of raising $100,000 for Turlington Burns’ Every Mother Counts, a nonprofit that advocates for safe motherhood and postpartum health care.

When asked what was the best advice her own mother gave her, Crawford said one of her favorite quotes was, “Show up, be quiet, and wear beige.” “It’s about when you show up for your children or… It would be more, I guess, if you were the perfect mother-in-law at a wedding – the model recalled. “She says: ‘It’s not about you, you don’t want to stand out.'”

She added that the “best advice” her mother gave her was: “Don’t give advice unless [it’s] search engine”, which he does his best to spend with his own children.

“They know that if they ask me, they’re going to get my real opinion,” Crawford explained. “But if I’m not asked… I really try and I’m probably about 70 percent good at this… I try not to offer unsolicited advice.”

Crawford has a son, Presley Gerber, 24, and a daughter, Kaia Gerber, 22, with her husband, Rande Gerber. Both Presley and Kaia followed in their mother’s footsteps and devoted themselves to modeling careers.

When Kaia first started modeling, Crawford shared some advice she passed on to the then 16-year-old.

“I’m so happy for Kaia and I tell her that she doesn’t have a beauty secret, but she has to remember to take her makeup off every night before she goes to bed,” Crawford told PEOPLE in 2017. “I also tell her not to overdo it … pluck her eyebrows because she won’t necessarily grow again.”

The supermodel also admitted that her children can teach her a thing or two.

“I can suggest these health and beauty tips from my own experience, but when it comes to modern technology, both my children advise me!” she added with a laugh.

In the episode of April 8 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonKaia recalled one of the more unorthodox ways her mom prepared her for her first fashion show in September 2017.

“I remember right before I went to my first fashion show, she sat me down and had my whole family gather around and play me a video compilation of models falling,” Kaia told host Jimmy Fallon. “I think this is the worst possible scenario.” And I said, ‘I didn’t know you could fall in so many different ways.'”

She added: “Knock on wood, I’ve never fallen. Maybe she scared me enough that I didn’t fall.”
