The Hurricanes defeated the Raiders with a score of 23-25, 25-20, 34-32, and 25-22 to defeat them and earn a ticket back to the state championship, where they placed second. However, it was Macias who made the largest impression.

The most memorable game was C.J. Macias’ last one.

35 kills, 15 service points, including three aces, 13 digs, and 7 blocks were all recorded by Macias. Eric Wurts, Northeast’s coach, praised C.J. as “incredible.” “He was like a cross between Keawe Adolpho and John Grotowski. He moves well on the court, and I enjoy that. He moves fluidly and strikes the ball hard.

Northeast outside hitter John Grotowski, a boyhood buddy, said of C.J., “He was unstoppable.” He was great and totally on.

Macias has been hailed as the county’s top player by St. Thomas coach Frank Bowman since the start of the season. But it wasn’t until that decisive contest that his superiority against Grotowski and Keawe Adolpho, the 2003 Sun-Sentinel Player of the Year and one of the state’s greatest teams and top players, was made crystal evident.

Since his sophomore year, Macias—the 2004 Sun-Sentinel Player of the Year—has played indoor volleyball. He played beach volleyball with a number of elite high school athletes growing up, including Mark Van Zwieten of Cardinal Gibbons, Adolpho, and Grotowski, and went surfing with his father.

His skills and ability didn’t begin to emerge until he began competing in beach volleyball events and played year-round on a club squad. This past summer, Macias and Grotowski competed against some of the greatest athletes in the country in California after winning the Junior Olympic event in Clearwater.

“I got better a lot quicker once I started playing with good players like Keawe, John, and Mark,” said Macias, who aspires to receive a college scholarship.

The 6-foot-4 middle blocker and outside hitter enjoyed his greatest season because to his hard ethic, and he helped the Raiders win the district. He had a school-record 47 kills against Douglas.

Bowman praised his performance as “outstanding.” “He is clearly the area’s best player. He has a larger block because he is bigger. C.J. differs from other players in that he didn’t commit the errors. There is an event every time he makes contact with the ball.
