Claire Foy Turns Down Blue Ink Autograph Request: ‘I Don’t Do Blue’

Claire Foy is a woman of her word!

On Sunday, writer Evan Ross Katz posted a video of the British actress, 39, entering the building as a group of fans ask for her autograph.

“I don’t do blue,” Foy replied as a man in the crowd asked for her signature. “What?” he said, seemingly taken aback by her response, as she repeated her statement after the gentleman.

A few steps down, another fan approached her with a black Sharpie. The Season of the witch talent stopped for that individual and signed their memorabilia.

In the comments section of the video on Instagram, users dismissed claims that the actress was rude, saying that her dismissal of a fan had more to do with the fact that she probably didn’t want her autograph sold.

“They use blue blades to mass-copy signatures and sell counterfeits. For some reason the blue photocopies are better than the black ones,” said one person.

Another wrote: “Colored ink autographs sell for a lot more money on eBay etc. Some celebs don’t want to support the secondary market/exploitation of their brand,” while several others gave similar responses.

The actress knows what is best for her.

Earlier this month, Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth in the hit Netflix series Crown for the first two seasons talked to PEOPLE about leaving the series.

“I really love the people who are still working on the show, but for my own sanity, I ended the show when I did,” the actress said at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles. All of us strangers December 6. “I let it go and moved on and I think that’s quite healthy.”

“I don’t feel like I’m defined by playing Queen Elizabeth,” she said at the time. “It’s a great honor that people liked that character and therefore see me as that character. So I’m not actively trying to oppose it.”

Although she “continued” with CrownFoy felt “really, really proud” of the work she did while part of the cast and that she wasn’t afraid to stand up for her beliefs.

During the interview with Empire last December to discuss her film Women Speak, Foy opened up about why she doesn’t find calling women “strong female characters” flattering.

“I absolutely hate ‘strong female characters’. What does he say? All other female characters are weak?” Foy asked. “You don’t separate men like that. “They’re allowed to be unlikeable, likable, strong, weak, scary, cuddly… all kinds of different things.”
