While in college, he borrowed his then-girlfriend’s father’s guitar to learn chords and sing. In 2002, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue music.

Kofi Anderson loved singing since he was a child and sang in the church choir. During college, his singing attracted classmates to listen to him and became a sensation. Later, he began to perform country music as an opening for local bands and perform gospel music (a genre of Christian music) in local churches. In 2003, Kofi Anderson made his television debut in the American singing competition TV series “American Idol”, but he did not achieve any obvious success.

In 2020, a reality series Country-Ish about the life of Kofi Anderson and his wife Chrisilla Anderson premiered on Netflix. The series shows their life in Los Angeles while Chrisilla Anderson, who is battling cancer, tries to manage her life and family.

- Kofi Anderson grew up in a farming community in central Texas, where he used to raise goats. His mother used to sing in church. He was born into an orthodox Christian family and also sang in the church choir. In an interview, he said,
Growing up, no music other than Christian music was allowed in my house.”
