Colton Underwood Recounts Experience Meeting His Egg Donor over Zoom: 'It Was Like Extreme Tinder'

The former ‘Bachelor’ star is currently on the road to fatherhood with husband Jordan C. Brown

Colton Underwood had a unique experience when he met his future egg donor.

Former Bachelor star, 32, appeared on Wondery’s I love my child, but… podcast on Tuesday, talking with hosts Megan Gailey, Kurt Braunohler and Chris Garcia about his years-long journey to fatherhood. Underwood, who married husband Jordan C. Brown in 2023, opened up about her process of choosing an egg donor.

“We saw the picture, we actually had a chance to zoom in with the cameras off… I wanted to remain anonymous for privacy,” Underwood recalled on the podcast. “We need to see pictures, videos, her family, her brothers and dad, all their health records, education.”

“It was like extreme Tinder, but for an expectant biological mother.”

Colton Underwood Opens Up About Journey To Fatherhood After Finding Out ‘No Sperm’ (Exclusive)

In February, Underwood told PEOPLE that he began the paternity process two years ago with Brown. He chronicled the entire process in his new podcast, paternitywhich was launched on February 21.

“I think that outside of the LGBTQ+ issue — the blatant discrimination and what’s at stake for us — heterosexual couples should also stop blaming women. I think that’s one thing I could at least say, from two men going through this, is that I’ve had fertility issues and I’ve struggled, and I don’t think a lot of men talk about it openly,” Underwood said.

“I mean right now, my husband gets his sperm count results and he had amazing, great numbers and I got mine back and all my sperm were dead. And I think I immediately said, ‘Oh, what does this mean? This means that I am sterile and cannot have children now.’ And that was not a great feeling,” he added.

At first, Underwood couldn’t understand why he tested so poorly, and admitted the disheartening results were hard on his confidence.

“I think one of the reasons men don’t talk about it is because it’s kind of an ego-stroke. They just say, ‘Why me, I’m an alpha male? How can I not do the simplest task a man can do?’ In a way, I also had that approach,” he said.

“I was like, ‘I’m healthy. I work out every day. I’ve got this.’ And then the doctor got my results back and I had four sperm and three of them weren’t moving and none of them looked great, so I literally had no sperm.”
