Miss Universe Winners (1952-2022): After a delay to avoid conflicts with the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Miss Universe 2022 beauty pageant was finally held on January 14, 2023. 84 contestants took part in the competition, showing both beauty and smarts to win the prestigious Miss Universe crown.
The winner was crowned at the end of the ceremony by the 70th Miss Universe, Indian Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. She was the third beauty from India to win the Miss Universe crown after 21 years. In 2000, Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe, and in 1994, Sushmita Sen.
Miss USA 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel won the coveted Miss Universe crown with Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela and Andreína Martínez of the Dominican Republic as 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.

On January 14, 2023, R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA was crowned Miss Universe 2022 by the 70th Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu of India. Sandhu herself made history last year when she won the title of Miss Universe 2021, beating 80 contestants in a pageant marred by politics and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Miss Universe is an annual beauty pageant run by the American Miss Universe Organization. It is one of the most watched beauty contests in the world. The beauties who won the title of Miss Universe had the privilege of being the most beautiful women in the entire universe. According to reports, the prize money of Miss Universe is about $250,000, including perks and benefits.
Miss Universe Pageant: Fast Facts
1. Armi Kuusela from Finland became the first Miss Universe in 1952.
2. In 2018, Catriona Gray was crowned Miss Universe and it was the Philippines’ fourth win. She was the fourth Filipina to win the Miss Universe title just 3 years after Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach won the title in 2015.
3. In 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters won the Miss Universe title, ending a 39-year gap between two South African Miss Universe titleholders. In 1978, South Africa was the first to win the crown.
4. The United States won the most Miss Universe titles since the pageant was founded in 1952.
About R’Bonney Gabriel
R’Bonney Gabriel is an American model who also won the title of Miss USA 2022. Her full name is R’Bonney Nola Gabriel, and she is of Filipino descent on her father’s side. R’Bonney was born on March 20, 1994 in Houston, Texas. She is 28 years old and has three older brothers.
R’Bonney graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in fashion design and is an advocate for eco-friendly clothing. Her hobbies include backpacking, hula hooping, sewing and reading. Gabriel is the ninth American in history and the first after Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012) to be crowned Miss Universe.
About Harnaaz Sandhu
Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu was crowned as the 70th Miss Universe on December 12, 2021, beating contestants from 80 countries. She is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration and was crowned by her predecessor, Andrea Meza from Mexico, who won the title of Miss Universe 2020.
Paraguayan Nadia Ferreira finished second, and Lalela Mswane from South Africa finished third. The last question that was asked of Ms. Sandhu was what advice would she give to young women on how to deal with the pressures they face today.
She replied: “The biggest pressure facing today’s youth is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that is what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself to others and let’s talk about the more important things going on in the world .”
“That’s what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourself because you are the leader of your life, you are your own voice. I believed in myself and that’s why I’m standing here today.”
She started her journey on the world stage when she won the Times Fresh Face 2017. She represented Chandigarh at the age of 17. She also won the LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021 title.
She has also worked in Punjabi films including “Yaara Diyan Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange”.
