Cops share major update in probe into Magaluf dad Michael Grant’s death as they investigate fight with street seller – The Sun

Cops investigating the death of a father in Magaluf have released a big update – as they investigate a brawl with a street vendor.

Spanish police have concluded that Irish tourist Michael Grant was not run over by a car before he collapsed in the street at 4.30am on Monday.

They are now investigating the possibility that Michael suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fight with the street vendor.

Civil Guard officers were unable to find any trace of the traffic incident involving Michael on CCTV despite an “exhaustive search”.

The pathologist said he thought Michael’s leg and knee injuries were consistent with being hit by a car.

But the Civil Guard has now dismissed the theory that Michael was run over, according to local media.

Officers are now investigating the theory that Michael had an argument with a street vendor whose friends allegedly joined in the fight.

It is unclear how many officers have evidence for this investigation at this time.

However, well-placed sources have confirmed that the death of 45-year-old Mr Grant is not being treated as a homicide.

Earlier today it was reported that an autopsy revealed that Michael had consumed cocaine and alcohol before he died.

His collapse and sudden death are believed to be related to the ingestion of the substance rather than the altercation that preceded it.

Further tests on the tissue samples are now taking place in a specialized laboratory in Barcelona.

As well as the knee and leg injuries, Michael had scratches and bite marks on his body and a cut on his back with glass still inside.

Saliva samples were taken from two bite marks, one on the shoulder and one on the chest, to determine who was responsible.

Mr Grant, from Waterford, was on holiday with his wife Leanne and at least two of their four children and other families from Ireland.

He crashed on Martina Rosa Street near Punta Ballena at around 4.30am on Monday.

Michael allegedly took a wrong turn and separated himself from the rest of his group.

He spent the afternoon drinking by the hotel pool before going to the party.

They stayed at the four-star Sol Katmandu Park and Resort in Magaluf.

The resort is described online as a popular hotel for families with small children.

‘QUESTIONS WITHOUT ANSWERS’

A source close to the investigation said: “The hiker’s injuries were not life-threatening.

“This investigation is not a murder or homicide investigation at this stage, nor do we expect it to become one.

“But we are investigating the hours leading up to his death because something happened that needs to be properly explained.

“Everything indicates that this man was involved in some kind of altercation and that he was hit by a car in incidents that may or may not be unrelated.

“There are still a lot of unanswered questions that we have to try to get to the bottom of.”

In a statement on Monday, the Civil Guard said: “This death does not appear to be related to crime in any way.”

The spokesman added: “But the post-mortem will be crucial in determining what happens next.”
