Coromandel Express speed limit 130 km/h
The Coromandel Express was traveling towards Chennai when it came under fire on Friday. The railways said on Sunday that the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express had an accident in Balasore district. It is further added that the freight train collided with another passenger train and crashed. Jaya Varma Sinha, a member of the Railway Board’s business development and operations department, was cited after the Board dismissed a preliminary investigation into speeding charges. Jaya Varma Sinha went on to say that some interference in the signaling system could have caused the accident in which 275 people have lost their lives so far. The number of victims makes this accident the worst railway tragedy in India in the last 3 decades. Sinha added: “Only one train was involved in the accident, which was the Coromandel Express. The Coromandel Express collided with a freight train and its carriages landed on top of the freight train. It was a train loaded with iron ore, a heavy train… therefore the full impact of the collision was on the train.” Scroll down the screen.
Talking about the speed limit of the trains, the Railways says that neither train exceeded the speed limit, both vehicles were within the 130 km/h limit in that area. The board went on to say that “some disturbances in the system” could have caused the accident. Both Coromandel Express and Yesvantpur Express were traveling at a speed of 128 km/h and 126 km/h respectively.
