Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion – Everything Carried Over in New Game Plus

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion has a New Game Plus feature. This allows players to go through the game a second (or more) time with additional advantages. However, only some of Zack’s arsenal is transferred over during a New Game Plus playthrough.

The powers carried over to New Game Plus are quite handy and can make higher difficulties of Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion more manageable. This is especially true for those that want a challenge by fully ignoring or outright disabling the Digital Mind Wave system. In those cases, Zack can only rely on his raw power.

Features of New Game Plus

Once completing Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion once, players can pick New Game Plus from the title screen. However, once completing the game a second time there will be additional selections of New Game Plus-Plus and New Game Minus. Plus-Plus stacks the bonuses from multiple playthroughs together, making an ultimate strong hero. Minus instead reverts Zack back to his power at the start of the previous playthrough, undoing all recent progress. Regardless of choice, Zack will inherit the following:

  • Character level
  • Equipment and Materia (including levels and mastery)
  • Items for Materia Fusion
  • Consumable items
  • Gil

Having these items and powers will give players an edge when completing missions. This includes both skipped quests and those that were far too hard for the first attempt of Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion. Players may need the additional levels to take on endgame challenges that were near impossible on an initial run of the game.

Unfortunately, Zack does not receive everything when starting on New Game Plus. Some of his arsenal and progression will be lost between playthroughs of Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion. Each time players will lose the following features:

  • All story related items, including the Buster Sword
  • Mission progress
  • Additional Accessory slots
  • Additional Materia slots
  • Digital Mind Wave characters
  • Digital Mind Wave summons

While Digital Mind Wave characters and summons remain locked, once unlocked their Memory progression will be restored intact. This means that players will not need to endlessly spin the Digital Mind Wave reels to watch the specific Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion character scenes. This is a nice relief, as many characters – like Cissnei and Angeal – have six random Memories that can play during combat.

Others, such as Genesis only have two scenes, but they can be just as uncommon to view. To make up for this, some equipment and Materia can make specific characters appear more common on an individual reel, though this still doesn’t guarantee either a Limit Break or Memory.

Much of the content in Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion seems to be specifically designed with New Game Plus in mind. Players should never feel pressured to complete a mission, side quest, or Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion event that is far too hard. This also allows hunting for the newly added PlayStation Trophies and Xbox Achievements in subsequent playthroughs without much stress.

Players will take up SOLDIER-in-training Zack Fair, the man that would be the admiration of Cloud Strife. Zack, wanting to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Angeal, and the most outstanding SOLDIER, Sephiroth, diligently trains to live up to their legacy. However, SOLDIER operatives begin to go missing en masse, and Sephiroth is one of them. Now a full-fledged SOLDIER, Zack is dispatched along with Angeal to investigate their whereabouts – but what they find is a conspiracy that goes deeper than the mako energy-powered metropolis of Midgar. Crisis Core -Final Fantasy 7- Reunion directly sets up the events that lead to Cloud’s origins and even answers the question of where Cloud got the Buster Sword. This entry updates the graphics for a modern age and redesigns the combat system to make it more action-oriented, much like its future sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
