Bellator veteran Cristopher Lencioni suffered a heart attack during a jiu-jitsu practice on June 8 in Spokane, Wash. He is currently awake and responsive to stimuli, but his future is uncertain. Lencioni’s collapse and subsequent cardiac arrest occurred while he was training for a fight at Bellator 298, which has since been canceled. Paramedics arrived within five to six minutes and used the defibrillator multiple times before taking him to hospital.
Unfortunately, a subsequent MRI revealed that Lencioni had suffered brain damage as a result of the heart attack. He was released from the intensive care unit, but remains in a state of impaired consciousness, which is a common consequence of traumatic brain injury.
