Cyndi Lauper Recalls Being Told to 'Write a Song About Female Masturbation' and Ensuring the Lyrics Weren’t 'Obvious'

Cyndi Lauper has always been at risk.

In a new interview for IndependentThe 71-year-old Grammy winner shared the story behind his hit “She Bop” from 1984 and how she made a cheeky lyric songs, holding her radio customized.

“It really shocked me,” she recalled the songs, which ended up on the “Filthy 15” list after the exit of the Parents’ Music Resources Center “Filthy 15”.

“I wrote that with this guy, Steve [Lunt]who called me one day and said, “You have to write a song about a woman’s masturbation,” Lauper said, “And I said,” Who, okay! ”

“And we did, but I wanted to make sure she wasn’t obviously-the adults would know what it was about and to laugh, but then the kids would only think it was a dance,” she added from the trails, also made with Rick Chertoff and Gary Corbett.

“Hey, hey, they say it’s better to get the captain / because I can’t stop interfering with a danger zone / hey, hey, I won’t worry, and I’m not going to worry about it yet / I’m not law against it,” she sings on an exciting track.

Lauper’s efforts were successful, like “that bop” – third single from her She’s so unusual Album – reached number 3 on Panel Hot 100, becoming her third consecutive top-5 hit on the ladder after “girls just want to have fun” and “from time to time.”

Backlash, however, came with Fanfar. “I didn’t think it was so bad, or so nasty. But suddenly it got bad,” she said.

Nevertheless, the Lauper’s record label supported the track and gladly lit the topic that was not often discussed at the time.

“No one has ever been really talking about such things,” she said. “It’s interesting to talk about things that people don’t want to talk about.”

Lauper is currently celebrating her legacy on girls who just want to have a farewell, who wrapped a US leg in December, hitting Europe in February. He will then head to Australia on a series of dates in April, before running running in Japan that month.

She assured Independent The farewell of the tour is only goodbye to the main shows of the Arena – without performing overall. “The show I do right now? I can do it,” she told the socket. “But I’m 71, so I don’t know how I will be in four years or five years.”
