Damar Hamlin Gets Heart Tattoo to Mark 1 Year After On-Field Cardiac Arrest: ‘Locked in’

Damar Hamlin’s latest tattoo has a special meaning.

The NFL star, 25, marked the one-year anniversary of his on-field cardiac arrest during the Buffalo Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals by tattooing his hands in the shape of a heart on the back of his neck.

The new piece of ink β€” debuted on celebrity tattoo artist Alexander Brenes’ Instagram page β€” features hands forming a heart shape with an electrocardiogram in the center.

Brenes shared a close-up of the tattoo and a picture of the process, writing in the caption, “1 year later still locked inn 🫢🏽.” Hamlin commented, “🫢🏾πŸ₯‰πŸͺ½.”

The footballer also reflected on the anniversary of his on-field health scare by writing a message on a GoFundMe created to benefit the toy drive sponsored by his Chasing M’s Foundation.

“As a donor to my charity, I didn’t want to let the New Year begin without personally thanking you. This past year has been an incredible journey for my family and I, and the growth of my charity – through the generosity of people like you – is huge blessing for me. In addition to returning to the NFL this fall, I have spent time creating the mission of my charity which is focused on empowering youth and uplifting people facing adversity,” his message read.

“One of the things that inspired me the most was the real-life stories of people who were inspired to train in CPR because of my experience and then turned around and saved a life once again this year,” Hamlin added in his message.

Hamlin returned for his first regular season game in October against the Miami Dolphins, as part of the Bills’ special teams kick return team.

“I think it was more of a promise to myself than anything else, just showing myself that I have courage, I have strength, that I have pride, everything, all those words, in me that I can go through something traumatic and be able to come back from that. To be able to continue to do what I love at the highest level in the world is amazing,” he said after his team’s 48-20 win, according to the Associated Press.

Hamlin and the Bills hope to clinch one of the last remaining playoff spots this Sunday when they face the Miami Dolphins again.
