Career
Dan was selected 145th overall in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. On October 12, 2008, he made his first career NFL start in a 12–10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He also started the last game of the 2008 season, but his team failed to win. On March 1, 2009, he was signed by the Houston Texans.
Furthermore, during the preseason, Rex Grossman beat him out for the backup quarterback position, ending up as the Texans’ third quarterback. The following season, Grossman was traded to the Washington Redskins and Dan was promoted to backup quarterback.
On July 30, 2011, Dan signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts. He and the Colts beat the Titans in their first game of the season (after an 0-13 start) on December 18, 2011. On March 15, 2012, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Orlovski was released by the Buccaneers on April 4 of the following year, but re-signed with them on April 4 of the following year.
On April 2, 2014, he joined the Detroit Lions as the backup quarterback to Matthew Stafford. Dan also signed with the Los Angeles Rams on July 20, 2017. On September 2, 2017, he was released by the team. On October 11, 2017, he announced his retirement. He is currently a football analyst for ESPN.
