Matt, who joined the show in 2004, made history in 2020 when he became the first skater to be paired with Steps singer Ian “H” Watkins.

His celebrity pairings have also included TOWIE star Gemma Collins and EastEnders legend Patsy Palmer.

In a statement, he said: “I have some news to share. I knew this day would come, but I will not be returning to Dancing on Ice in this series.

“After 15 series of the show, unfortunately the time has come to hang up the skates for the time being. I loved every minute (honestly!)

“Over the years I’ve had amazing partners and we’ve created some fantastic TV moments!

“I mean, who can forget that fall from Gemma or the wardrobe malfunction from Pamela!”

He added: “It was an honor to make history with H as the UK’s first same-sex television partnership.

“All my leading ladies (and H) had a blast! Bonnie Langford, Lara Bingle/Worthington (Australian Ice Dance), Lisa Scott Lee, Suzanne Shaw, Zoe Salmon, Heather Mills, Denise Welch, Jorgie Porter, Pamela Anderson, Candice Brown, Gemma Collins, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Denise Van Outen, Faye Brooks, Sally Dynevor and Patsy Palmer.

“I will miss everyone on the show, in front of and behind the camera – and so will all you fans!

“But of course I’ll be watching and commenting – which I can be completely 100 percent honest about now, so watch out – haha!

“I’m writing this from the US west coast in sunny Los Angeles – but I’ll definitely be back in the UK very soon, so watch this space!

“This is not goodbye, but ‘see you very soon’.”

A Dancing on Ice spokeswoman said: “Matt has been a huge part of the show since the first series creating some of the show’s iconic moments.

“From performing the first headbanger in the very first show with partner Bonnie Langford, storming to victory with partner Suzanne Shaw in season three and performing in our first same-sex pairing with Ian ‘H’ Watkins in season 12.

“Matt will always be part of the Dancing On Ice family and we wish him all the best for the future.”
