“Honestly, I was a little nervous. This is his bread and butter, this is what he does, and I’m dancing to one of their songs and I have to look like them and move like them,” Jowsey said of portraying Bass, 44, and the other members of the boy band 90 – them for his routine.

“I was very nervous, but his advice – it was simply very encouraging,” he adds about the singer. “It was really good to have him in the room and feel his energy.”

Before the show, Jowsey and his partner Rylee Arnold were showing them the opening package at rehearsals when Bass surprised them to help them perfect the routine. Although Jowsey admitted to the star that it was “terrifying” to perform the same moves in the music video, Bass advised him: “You have to get out of your head and just perform. When I think about moving, I mess up.”

“Everybody thought I was a dancer, but when I was doing it, I wasn’t dancing ballroom at all,” Bass told the cameras while competing for the Mirrorball trophy in Season 7 DWTS. “When all this is over, [Jowsey’s] I’ll look back and say, ‘Damn, I can’t believe I did that’.”

For the performance, Jowsey and Arnold, 18, along with backup pro dancers Gleb Savchenko and Alan Bersten, took a page from *NSYNC’s music video concept book and became puppets that came to life in a toy store.

Jowsey went out of his way to recreate the band’s look, wearing a Justin Timberlake-inspired wig and the same denim costume as in the video. In the end, he and Arnold received a score of 24 out of 40 from the judges.

When asked at the time if he checked his phone to see if Bass texted him about his performance, Jowsey told PEOPLE, “I didn’t, but I sent him a photo of me with this wig and all that stuff and he says, ‘ Oh my god. It looks exactly like the music video.’ So that’s a good start. We hope he enjoyed the dance.”
