Daniel Durant proposed to Britt Stewart with an engagement ring that represents their touching love story.
The Code The 34-year-old actor popped the question in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., on Christmas Day with a sprinkler on an endless treadmill, which Stewart, a professional dancer, choreographer and Dancing with the stars pro, he says represents their eternal love for each other.
“It’s beautiful because our way of saying ‘I love you’ is ‘I love you forever and ever,’ through sign language,” Stewart, 34, tells PEOPLE exclusively about her special bond with Durant, who is deaf. “I just knew he saw me, he saw our relationship when he took that ring.”

Durant was ready to find “the right ring” – and he did.
He landed on the perfect one, especially after seeing her in person. “My heart connected with that and I had to take that ring,” he tells PEOPLE through an American Sign Language interpreter, adding that it “definitely belongs on her finger.”

Of course, Stewart said yes, but there may be one minor complication to that — she doesn’t currently have her engagement ring, which had to be sent to a jeweler to be resized.
Durant didn’t want to “scare” Stewart by asking her about the size of the ring, but wanted to continue with his plan. “He’s got no patience,” jokes Stewart, as her fiance explains that “they’ll be able to fix it and get it back to her.”
When he’s ready, she will “absolutely” be wearing her ring as she embarks on Dancing with the stars 2024 Live Tour, which kicks off in Richmond, Virginia on January 11th.
Durant says he will meet her on tour to return the ring.
For now, Stewart plans to wear an alternative ring she bought on Amazon to make her finger flash.
Durant and Stewart confirmed their relationship last Valentine’s Day after competing on the ABC dance competition 2022. Durant popped the question after the two shared Christmas breakfast with their families. After going on a hike together, they all shared what they were thankful for in celebrating the holiday, which was the moment Durant got down on one knee and proposed. Stewart called the moment “perfect” and “authentic” for them as a couple.
The two have shared snippets of their romance on social media. Stewart recently celebrated Durant’s birthday on Dec. 24 with a sweet video compilation he shared on Instagram.

The video included shots of them hanging out and vacationing, as well as the couple enjoying the small moments of life. Stewart also made sure to show plenty of solo clips of the celeb boy.
“Happy birthday my love! Daniel, you have completely changed my life! You have brought so much love, joy, laughter, light and so much more to my every day. We have had the most amazing experiences this past year and I can’t wait to see what our future holds. I wish you a year filled with everything you want to keep loving and growing. I love you forever!” Stewart wrote.
