Danielle Fishel talks candidly about why she and she The floor meets the world associates were afraid that the program would “fail” A boy meets the world.
The actress, 42, spoke exclusively with PEOPLE at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday, when she revealed that she, Rider Strong and William Friedle — who rewatch every episode A boy meets the world and share memories and anecdotes about the show on a podcast — I thought it might sour fans’ feelings about the sitcom.
“We were worried that we might ruin the show,” said Fishel, who played Topanga on the show. “We don’t want our reviews or our reviews or our experiences to change your opinion of the show in any way. These are just our honest opinions, and we can’t do that if we don’t want to be fair, honest.”
“I was just left with one overarching feeling about the whole experience as opposed to the show and what its values were, or what its key points were, or how good it was,” she continued. “And so now when I watch it, I’m like, ‘Man, that’s a really good show,’ and what a great experience we had.”
Reflecting on early talks about potentially starting a podcast, Strong, 43, who played Shawn, added: “In the end we decided to do it as a kind of journey rather than just watching the show and talking about how great it is , which we all agree is actually great. We wanted it to be more of a personal journey for us and to be honest.”
