Swanson graduated from Vanderbilt after the 2015 campaign and signed with the Diamondbacks to start his baseball career professionally. He was traded to the Braves as part of a prospect package given to Atlanta in exchange for Shelby Miller after spending one season in Arizona’s development system. Swanson made his Major League Baseball debut in August 2016 and was the lone rookie from Atlanta selected for the Braves’ 2017 Opening Day roster, however due to his offensive and defensive struggles, he was demoted to Triple-A in July.

Swanson had shoulder surgery in the offseason and worked out to get ready for his second campaign in 2014.
Swanson was asked by Corbin to take over as the starting second baseman for the Commodores in 2014 as a sophomore when Tony Kemp left Vanderbilt following the 2014 campaign. In the fifth inning of Vanderbilt’s 4-1 victory over Stanford on February 28, Swanson blasted his first home run as a college player.
