Darío Gómez An Iconic Singer Passed Away At The Age Of 71

Daro Gómez, singer, died on July 26 at the age of 71. Clinica Las Americas announced that. The Ministry of Culture of Colombia offered him an honor, writing,

“We mourn the death of Dar Gómez, ‘Rey Del Despecho’. Popular music singer and songwriter from Colombia. We will never forget his interpretations and texts, which follow Colombians for generations.”

Colombian President Iván Duque expressed “solidarity with his family and friends, and we offer them our fraternal embrace” after the death of the singer-songwriter, whom he described as “one of the best exponents of Colombian popular music.” His funeral is still being completed.

Death of Dar Gómez

Daro Gómez collapsed at home and was taken to the Las Americas clinic. However, he was not showing any vital signs. Doctors performed CPR to save him, but he eventually died. According to the clinic’s announcement,

“The patient was admitted without vital signs and transported to the intensive care unit, where advanced cardiac resuscitation operations were performed without success.”

More information is still awaited, and it is uncertain whether Gómez has had any health problems in the past.

Daro de Jess Gómez Zapata was born in San Jerónimo on February 6, 1951. He has sold more than six million CDs in his country and abroad, earning him the title El Rey del Despecho for his performance of Nadie is eterno (No One Is Eternal) (King of spite). He wrote songs such as La Oveja Negra (The Black Sheep), El Hijo del Amor (Son of Love), Corazon Resentido (The Resentful Heart) and others.

Gómez began writing poetry at the age of 14 while working as a mechanic and farmer. He then discovered his music production and joined the record label Codiscos. In 1977, he was appointed creative director of the company. Key features of his notes were December themes, picaresque tone, vallenatos and dance. He joined Los LegenDaros with his brother Heriberto Gómez. Angel perdido (The Lost Angel), inspired by the death of his sister Rosangela, was his first success.

Gómez made his solo debut in 1985 and became famous with the performance of Decidelo (Decide it). That’s when he released his first album Asi se le canta al despecho (That’s how it’s sung in spite). In May 2015, he released the video for me voy a casar (I’m getting married), followed by the remix of No Hay Razon Para Odiarte (No Reason to Hate You) with Yelsida and Andy Rivera.

He has won several accolades throughout his career, including the Ascap Award for Writing Nobody Is Forever and the Golden Pentagram. He appeared on television for the first time in 2007, and in 2009 he was included in a commercial for Telefonica Telecom Colombia.

Jhonny Rivera, the Colombian popular music singer with whom Gomez collaborated on the me voy a casar video, announced on Twitter that he was saddened to learn of the death of “our king of spite #DarioGomez, a benchmark for popular music, a great friend and a source of inspiration in my career, peace In his grave, his legacy will remain forever.”
