Darryl Hunt A Bassist Of The Pogues Band Passed Away At The Age Of 72

Hunt died on Monday afternoon, August 8, 2022, in London, according to the punk band. The cause of Hunt’s death is still unknown. Band members paid tribute and said they were “indescribably saddened”.

In addition to being the bassist, Hunt worked on five of the band’s albums, starting with If I Should Fall from Grace with God in 1988 and ending with Pogue Mahone in 1996. Darryl Hunt was born on May 4, 1950 in Hampshire, England. He graduated in fine arts from the Nottingham School of Art. Hunt was a member of pub rock bands Plummet Airlines and The Favorites before joining The Pogues in 1986. He was also a member of many other bands, notably Pride of Cross, which he formed with fellow Pogues members Dave Scott and Cait O’ Riordan.

Hunt spent some time working on the band’s sound, driving and tour management before becoming a full-time member in 1986. He also made significant contributions to the band’s work, notably their 1988 album If I Should Fall From Grace With God, which included the song Christmas Fairytale Of New York. In December 2021, the 1987 single, starring Kirsty MacColl, made its annual return to the Official UK Singles Chart.

Shane MacGowan fronted The Pogues in 1982. The band’s original name was Pogue Mahone, which translates to “kiss my ar**.” MacGowan left the band in 1991. The Pogues, on the other hand, persisted until 1996 with new singers such as Joe Strummer and Spider Stacy.

The band reformed in 2001 and toured the UK and Ireland frequently until disbanding again in 2014. Hunt was a member of the band during their active years.
