Daryl Hall has been granted a temporary restraining order against John Oates after he filed a mysterious lawsuit against his Hall & Oates bandmate.
Hall and his trust, The Daryl Hall Revocable Trust, filed a sealed lawsuit against Oates and two co-trustees of The John W. Oates TISA Trust on Nov. 16 in Nashville Chancery Court, PEOPLE can confirm.
That same day, Hall’s legal team filed for a temporary restraining order against Oates, which was granted on Nov. 17 after a $50,000 bond was obtained.

Subpoenas were then issued to Oates as well as his co-trustees Aimee Oates and Richard Flynn on Monday, and a subpoena was filed on Wednesday, meaning one side asked an out-of-state attorney to join the case.
Representatives for Hall and Oates, as well as Hall’s attorney, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
While the band members have taken breaks from Hall & Oates in the past, they recently performed as a duo for several concerts throughout 2022.

In March 2022, Hall expressed uncertainty about the possibility of the “Rich Girl” musicians reuniting for a new album anytime soon. “I have no idea. I don’t have any plans to work with John. I mean, whatever. Time will tell,” he said Los Angeles Times.
During the performance at Club Random with Bill Maher podcast in September 2022, Hall spoke about the state of his relationship with Oates. “You think John Oates is my partner? … He is my business partner. He is not my creative partner,” he said at the time.
“John and I are brothers, but we’re not creative brothers. We’re business partners,” Hall continued. “We made records together called Hall & Oates, but we’ve always been very separate, and that’s a really important thing to me.”

Earlier this year, Oates recorded and released a reggae version of Hall & Oates’ 1982 hit “Maneater” with producer Native Wayne Jobson and a lineup of legendary reggae musicians, inspired by his original vision of the song.
Oates revealed to PEOPLE in September that he wasn’t sure if Hall had listened to the new version of the song, which was released in May. “No, I haven’t heard from him,” he said then. “I’m not even sure if he heard or not.”
