David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are celebrating 25 years of marriage on July 4, 2024, and the couple is still going strong.

When Victoria and David first met at a football match in 1997, she was best known as Posh Spice from the Spice Girls and he was playing for Manchester United. They became engaged just a year later and married on July 4, 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin, Ireland.

Although there weren’t many photos available from the big day, over the years the couple shared glimpses of their wedding with fans on social media, including when Victoria posted a video of the couple cutting their wedding cake on Instagram as they celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in 2023.

Since getting married, David and Victoria have had four children: sons Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. They also renewed their vows at the time, as David revealed in an interview with BBC Radio 4 in January 2017. Desert Island Discsadding that only “six people” were present at the ceremony.

David and Victoria chose Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin as the venue for their wedding, which reportedly cost $800,000. The 15th-century castle, which includes 20 bedrooms and a ballroom, is part of a 560-acre private estate that has become an exclusive fairytale location.

At the reception, they reportedly welcomed a much larger guest list of around 230 people. David and Victoria famously sat on equal golden thrones and first danced to Frank Sinatra’s recording of “It Had to Be You”.

Although the couple’s wedding was considered grand, Victoria later told Business of fashion that the celebration was overly glamorized.

“I think the media has glamorized the wedding a lot more than it really was,” she said at the VOICES event in 2022. “I like to have fun. I work really, really hard. I take what I do very seriously. Four months before they got married, the couple had their first child, Brooklyn Beckham. He served as ring bearer at their ceremony and was dressed in a cream outfit that matched David’s suit, which included a satin tie, striped waistcoat and long jacket.

For the reception, the newlyweds changed into matching purple combinations designed by Antonio Berardi. Victoria wore a mermaid dress with a red and purple floral belt, while David wore a double breasted suit with a purple flower attached to the lapel. Even Brooklyn matched his parents in a purple hat, suit and pepper.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in January 2017, David opened up about their matching ensembles.

“I even had a purple top hat,” he joked. “What was I thinking? I looked like the guys from Dumb and Dumber.”

In October 2021, Victoria reflected on their history of wearing matching outfits during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It just seemed like a really good idea at the time, you know?
