David Tennant Brings Dog ‘Bark Ruffalo’ to the 2024 BAFTAs After Michael Sheen Asked Him to Pet Sit

David Tennant kicked off the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards with a little help from a former actress — and his furry friend!

For Sunday’s ceremony, host Tennant, 52, included many of his famous friends in his opening monologue, beginning with his Good signs and Staged lead actor, Michael Sheen.

The actor friends started the award in a video call in a hilarious replay Stageda comedy series about lockdown in which they played fictional versions of themselves.

In a pre-recorded part of the monologue, Sheen, 55, reminded Tennant that he had promised a dog to watch over the actor’s new puppy, Bark Ruffalo (crazily named after actor Mark Ruffalo), on Sunday, which the BAFTAs host tried to renege on.

“I don’t want any of your apologies, David. You promised,” Sheen told him. “And I can’t leave him with my neighbor because he peed in her kitchen.”

The A doctor who is star again tried to turn down the gig, telling Sheen that since he first promised to protect him, “something else has come up.” Still, Sheen persisted, telling him, “Well, that sounds like your problem” before angrily exiting The Call.

Tennant then tried to pawn the playfully named pet to several other celebrities, including Stanley Tucci, Himesh Patel, Tom Hiddleston and Judi Dench, who refused because the pup “peeed all over the place”.

After failed attempts, the host arrived at London’s Royal Festival Hall for the ceremony with Bark Ruffalo dressed as a postman, who told security: “There’s a courier here with something to produce.”

The petting part came to a head when Tennant entered the hall – still holding the dog – to host and saw Sheen in the front row, telling him: “This is why you wanted me to sit like a dog, how could you sit here? ”

“You’re going to have to get the dog,” Tennant said, and Sheen countered – “What if I have to go up on stage to be presented with an award?” — before immediately accepting defeat.

“Yeah, well, put him over here,” Sheen said as Tennant took the stage to continue his monologue.

Actor Andy Serkis later continued the segment when he presented the first award of the night, joking that he had taken on the role of a dog.
