The comedian and children’s book author stepped down as a judge on the show after a leaked transcript of him making derogatory comments about contestants on the show during filming at the London Palladium in 2020. Why is David Walliams suing the production company behind Britain’s Got Talent?

Court documents were released on September 21 confirming that David is in the process of suing the production company for data breaches in the transcript that caused him to resign from the show.

What did David Walliams say on BGT?

David made the remarks during a taped audition in 2020, where he called one contestant an ac*** three times, before making remarks about the contestant, saying: “She’s like a slightly boring girl you meet in the pub who thinks you want to [expletive] them, but not you. She thinks you want to [expletive] she, but not you. I know, she’s just like, ‘Oh, [expletive] off!’ I said, she thinks you want it [expletive] she, but not you. It’s the last thing on your mind, but she says, ‘Yeah, I bet you know!’ No, I don’t want to! I had a little [expletive]but now it departs, now it is shriveled in my body.”

The marriage lasted five and a half years before Katie filed for divorce.

What was said then about the departure of David Walliams?

At the time of the announcement, David released a statement which read: “I’d like to apologize to the people I made rude comments about during the breaks from filming Britain’s Got Talent 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never were meant to be shared. I’m sorry though.”

ITV also released a statement which read: “We do not condone the language contained in these allegations and have spoken to the producers of Britain’s Got Talent. The duty of care to all participants in any of our programs is always of the utmost importance and we have protocols and guidelines in place for all our production partners.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Simon Cowell denied that David’s fellow judge had heard the comments, saying: “We were unaware of the alleged conversation until the Guardian contacted us, and while it is not suggested that Simon overheard the alleged remarks, we can confirm that he did not. Britain’s Got Talent is a family show and we don’t condone the use of such language.”
