Although Staley has never talked about her relationship or partner status, she has let fans speculate about her relationship and gender. Due to her rude and outspoken personality, many fans suspected her of being a lesbian. And speculations have been going on for a long time. “I think Dawn Staley is gay,” wrote a Twitter user named Zaria in 2014.

Her mother, who insisted that she focus on her studies while playing basketball, was at the time. had Alzheimer’s disease. Staley moved to South Carolina to care for her mother. Her mother passed away in August 2017 at the age of 74, after years of promotion.
