Prominent lawyer Zafaryab Jilani has passed away. A senior advocate and administrator of AIMPLB passed away on Wednesday. He died after a long illness.
Jilani breathed his last in a hospital in Lucknow. The lawyer’s son informed the media about his father’s death. Jilani’s son revealed that his father had passed away at a local hospital after a long battle with the disease.

Cause of death and obituary of Zafaryab Jilani
Senior Advisor Zafaryab Jilani died in a local hospital on May 17, 2023 after a long battle with illness. Najam Zafaryab, son of the secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, confirmed the news to PTI. According to Najam, his father died at 11:50 a.m. after a long illness. The bereaved son also revealed that the last rites of the eminent lawyer will be performed on Wednesday evening at Lucknow’s Aishbagh graveyard.

Jilani has been a topic of debate for the last three decades. He did not participate in politics. Zafaryab Jilani is best known for his steadfast advocacy of the Muslim side in the Ayodhya dispute. As a result of the Supreme Court decision, the late lawyer was appointed as the chairman of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali is among the celebrities who have expressed their grief over Jilani’s death. Zafaryab Jilani, according to a senior cleric, contested the Babri Masjid case in multiple courts and served as the convener of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Zafaryab was also the secretary of several educational institutions. Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali added: “I pray to Allah to forgive him and give courage and strength to the people he left behind.”
In the case of Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi, he remained the central figure. As coordinator of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, senior advocate Jilani argued before the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. He previously served as Additional Solicitor General of Uttar Pradesh.

Najam Zafaryab, son of Zafaryab Jilani, said that his father died after a long illness. Zafaryab Jilani, secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in May 2021 and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow. The senior lawyer’s family revealed that he was rushed to hospital after he slipped and fell. He spent part of the time in the hospital.
“His treatment has started, and doctors say his condition is stable for now,” he added. They have indicated that he may need surgery, but he is stable at the moment,” the lawyer’s nephew told The Indian Express.
Although the lawyer’s cause of death was not a brain hemorrhage, his health appears to have deteriorated following a brain hemorrhage in 2021.
