Dec Donnelly left in agony after nasty accident during terrifying live Saturday Night Takeaway challenge

DECLAN Donnelly was left in agony this evening after an unfortunate incident when Saturday Night Takeaway returned to TV.

The 48-year-old managed to get his manhood in his belt after losing out to co-host Ant McPartlin in the show’s first Ant vs Dec series.

Stephen Mulhern, who made a dramatic return to the program dressed as Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers film series, tasked the pair with climbing two tall towers and first pressing the buzzer at the top.

But after Ant went down, Dec was seen struggling in the background.

Stephen remarked, “Oh, he looks like he’s in pain.”

A worried Ant asked him: “Are you okay?” to which he meekly replied: “Aha”.

The ant continued, “Are your balls stuck?”

Dec nodded as everyone started laughing and Stephen noted the joys of live TV.

Speaking about taking part in the challenge afterwards, Dec said: “It was fine until I got to the ledge and turned around, it’s really high.”

Looking back

The pair kicked off the show’s 20th series by looking back at their first show more than two decades ago.

The Geordie duo will take a break from the show at the end of the series, after saying the 20th “turning point” felt like the “perfect time to pause and catch our breath”.

Dec opened the show, saying: “Hello and welcome to a brand new series of your Saturday night takeaways.”

After they were greeted with thunderous applause, Ant said: “You’re a great audience – welcome to the show everyone and welcome to series 20.”

Dec added: “I actually can’t believe the first episode of Saturday Night Live was almost 22 years ago” before showing a photo of the pair from June 8, 2002 – their first show.

A crowd pleaser

They flipped their audience as well, showing pictures from years ago of people sitting in the studio and at home watching the show live.

Before starting the normal process, they surprised a few superfans at the Saturday Night Takeaway with tickets to see the show from the studio at the beginning.

The duo also revealed they hand-picked every member of the 411-strong audience, which was full of foster carers and fundraisers.

As a thank you to the live audience, who they said together raised £40m for charity, they gave everyone a getaway prize.

Comedian and actor Stephen Merchant joined the show as guest announcer for the week.
