Dee MC is an Indian rapper, singer, songwriter and hip-hop artist. She represented India at the 2017 Alchemy Festival in the UK, the 2018 La Belle Hip Hop Festival in Belgium and the 2019 DesiFest in Canada. She made a cameo appearance in the 2019 Bollywood film Gully Boy.

Dee MC was born Deepa Unnikrishnan (28 years old; as of 2022) in Mumbai on Monday, February 14, 1994. Her zodiac sign is Aquarius. She attended Lokkayan Public School in Kalyan, Maharashtra, where she participated in poetry writing, speech and debate competitions.

At the age of 5, she started learning Bharatanatyam. When she was in sixth grade, she started listening to hip-hop music. Her parents wanted her to pursue chartered accounting and find a respectable job. She revealed in an interview that she appeared for the CA entrance exam twice; however, she was not eligible to appear for the exam. In an interview, she spoke about her failure in CA exams and said:

I told them that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India intentionally deducts a few marks from students. Very depressing. I failed two and three points. My parents didn’t want to understand that it couldn’t always be my fault. ”

One year later, on October 30, 2014, she released her second single “Greenhouse Effect”. In the same year, she released the song “Kal”, in which she rapped in Hindi and English.   • Earlier, she gave her stage name as “Aura” but later, she changed it to Dee MC, where Dee stands for her name Deepa and MC stands for Microphone Controller.
  • According to Dee MC, during her first few years of rapping, her parents were skeptical about her attending rap events at night.
  • On October 31, 2018, she released a song, “No More Limits,” in collaboration with the non-profit organization WASH United to spread awareness about intimate hygiene on Menstrual Hygiene Day.
