Deepa Malik is a famous Indian para-athlete. She is the recipient of Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri Award and Arjuna Award.

She was born on Wednesday, September 30, 1970, in Baiswal, Sonipat district, Haryana (age 49; as of 2019). Her zodiac sign is Libra.
She completed her education from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kolkata and went to Sophia College in Ajmer for her graduation. Deepa was born like a normal child, but when she was 5 years old, a spinal tumor was discovered. After three years of long-term treatment, her spinal tumor was cured. In 1999, she was diagnosed with a spinal tumor again and she had no choice but to have surgery. Doctors told her that if she had the tumor, she would die early and if she had surgery, she would be paralyzed. So, she chose the second option. She underwent three surgeries and required 183 stitches. After the surgery, her lower body was paralyzed.

She was born in a North Indian family. Her father Balkrishan Nagpal is a former Indian Army personnel. Her mother’s name is Veena Nagpal. She has a brother, Vikram Nagpal.
She married her boyfriend “Bikram Singh” on June 27, 1989. He is an Indian Army officer. They have two daughters – Ambika Malik and Devika Malik. Ambika works at the JGU Rotaract Club and Devika works at the CCYDN Federal Child and Adolescent Disability Network. When the interviewer asked Deepa Malik – how she met her husband, she said –
I used to go running every day. I also see this boy running every day. One day he arrived on a very nice looking motorcycle. And, I’d love to ride it. I walked up to the man and asked him to give me the key. He asked me if I could handle it. I then ordered the keys to be handed over to me, which he did. I rode my motorcycle, did a few stunts, and gave it back to him. I told him I would marry anyone who wouldn’t ask me why I needed a motorcycle and would buy me one. “
Profession
At the age of 36, she decided to pursue a career in sports. She competed in various sports including shot put, javelin and discus. She has participated in various state, national and international events and won awards and medals. She won a silver medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games. At the 2018 Asian Para Games, she became the only Indian woman to win medals at three consecutive Asian Para Games (2010, 2014, 2018).

In 2016, when Deepa was ignored for the Keira Turner Award, she “appealed” to the sports ministry to get the award. she says,
I feel there was an oversight. Something is missing. Do I need to win another medal at the 2020 Olympics at age 50 to qualify for this award? ”
