After completing his schooling, he received a bachelor’s degree in production engineering from VJTI, University of Mumbai and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Power generation, hospitality and mining are core areas of his work. He is the owner of Goa “Salgaocar” football club. Smart Link Network System is also owned by Dattaraj Salgaocar. Deepti said in the same interview that after marrying Dattaraj, she moved to Goa and watched CNN channel all day long. She further added that her father gifted her a fax machine and she used to talk to him through the fax machine. she says,
When I got married in 1983, there was nothing in Goa and I remember copying my father. He would say to do whatever it takes to change it. We had nothing here at the time, so he installed a huge satellite dish because we had to watch CNN. He gave me a fax machine and he sent me faxes every day. Even my children, from the time they were two years old, my father would communicate with them via fax. There were no fax machines in Goa at that time. “
