Demi Moore Praises Cher as 'My Personal Hair Inspiration' at amfAR Gala: 'She's a Style Icon’

Demi Moore knows that no Cher and Cher are the same – but there is is in one way it tries to imitate a unique icon.

The The ghost the actress, 61, who hosted the amfAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival, gave the evening’s keynote address and introduced the evening’s musical guest with raves befitting the legend that she is.

“This amazing woman that I’m going to introduce to you, she’s a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner—” (at which point, she appeared to be interrupted by someone from behind, to whom she jokingly said, “Are you an Emmy winner back there part of the room? I fucking don’t think so!”).

“She’s a style icon and my personal hair inspiration,” continued Moore in a silver dress. “AmfAR honored her with their Inspiration Award in 2015. The bottom line is that she is one of the most talented, successful and beloved female performers of all time. So please…please give a warm welcome to the one and only Cher!”

Cher, 78, took the stage and sang her hit “Believe” in a black glittery bodysuit with a leather jacket and knee-high leather boots, according to videos taken at the event. The outfit was reminiscent of her look in her “If I Could Turn Back Time” music video.

Cher and Moore are both known for their long, dark locks — something the Grammy winner told PEOPLE 2022 won’t be changing anytime soon, no matter how old she gets.

“[Going gray] it’s okay for other girls,” Cher told PEOPLE. “I just don’t do it!”

However, at the time Cher noted that she was completely open to experimenting with a different look, saying, “It’s all about having fun” — and she did just that at the gala, donning a platinum wig for her performance after walking the carpet in her signature long, black locks.

Moore also told PEOPLE that she is happy with her famous hip-length dark brown hair and has no plans to change it.

“I remember hearing someone say that when women get older, they shouldn’t have long hair. And something about that stuck with me,” she said during an interview in 2022. “Like, who says?”

“It made me feel like, well, if it can grow and it’s not unhealthy, then why can’t we? I don’t like rules that don’t seem to make any real sense or justification,” she added.

She also told PEOPLE that she has already tried a variety of hairstyles over the years and revealed that she prefers to keep it as organic as possible.

“I’ve done everything to my hair. I’ve shaved it. I’ve dyed it. I’ve done my hair. When I’m not working, I try to do as little as possible to it,” said Moore. “It’s stressful to even have someone touch it. If I have nowhere to go, I don’t warm it – I just let it do its thing. And I don’t wash it too often.”
