Demi Moore Snagged a Pair of Vintage Gucci Boots from the Feud Set: They ‘Had to Live in My Closet’ (Exclusive)

With all the glamorous clothes and accessories on set Feud: Capote vs. swans, Demi Moore couldn’t help but take some for herself.

“There was a pair of vintage Gucci boots that are brand new from the ’70s,” Moore, who portrays Ann Woodward, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “They were my size. I had to go. I had to live in my closet.”

Moore, 61, stars alongside Calista Flockhart, Diane Lane, Molly Ringwald, Chloë Sevigny and Naomi Watts as Truman Capote’s swansong, Manhattan socialites who dominated the city’s social scene in the ’60s and ’70s.

“Part of the fun of doing a piece from that period is really stepping out,” says Moore. “If you really appreciate it, it can really be a great joy. Going into the hair salon was a bit of a shock for me! it just changed the way you look and feel about yourself so much.”

The mother of three points out that women have been setting trends since before swans dominated the best-dressed lists.

“If anyone was watching The Gilded Age, you’d see where we came from and how it’s a social set-up of new money versus old money, and even how that evolved into who really runs things. At that time, these women were really trendsetters,” he says. “They really set the tone for what others wanted to wear and where they wanted to go and what they wanted to do.”

Capote aired some of that dirty laundry in his 1975 work “La Côte Basque, 1965,” which resulted in the swans shunning him from his circle.

“One of the interesting things [in the show] The focus was on what other people thought,” says Moore. “And not that we’ve moved so far away from that, but how much power was attached to reputation and how destructive and self-destructive it was to their existence.”

Today, the Internet and social media play a major role in shaping public opinion. “I think it’s kind of interesting, to see the parallels between what has changed and what hasn’t,” Moore says.

He doesn’t try to pay too much attention to social networks.

“At least for me, there’s a consciousness that exists, but I think the choice is whether you let it dictate how you want to live your life and who you want to be,” GI Jane says the star. “It really makes a difference in how much power you really want to give it.”
