Denise Richards Explains Her ‘Bizarre’ RHOBH Return: ‘I Made an Ass Out of Myself’

Denise Richards clears up some rumors after appearing on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The reality TV personality, 54, made a surprise return to the hit franchise for Season 13 after announcing her departure from the show after two seasons in September 2020.

In Sunday’s episode Just B with Bethenny Frankel podcast, Denise shared that she decided to attend Kyle Richards’ “weed party” after being invited by Garcelle Beauvais.

“Garcelle asked me, ‘Hey, would you like to go to dinner or lunch or something?’ And I said, ‘You know what? If you’re there, I’ll go and do it.'”

Denise’s arrival at the dinner confused viewers as she was shown picking up Erika Girardi, leading fans to believe she may have been drunk or under the influence.

About her behavior, Denise said she doesn’t eat weed or edibles because they “don’t fit well” with her body, and said she only tried weed twice and didn’t like it. She said she was told there would be weed-free items at the dinner, but she remembers “going sideways.”

“I came home, and Aaron [Phypers, Denise’s husband] was like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ And I say, ‘I don’t know’. I was never like that,” she recalled.

After host Bethenny Frankel asked if she had anything to drink before attending the event, Denise said she only had one drink because she was “nervous looking at the women.”

Apart from having one drink, Denise said she was also sick and “not feeling well”. She said she did not want to cancel and was allowed to attend the rally after taking three tests for COVID-19, all of which came back negative.

“Progressively throughout the evening, I felt worse and worse,” she said, noting that she took “regular cough medicine … and then I just [don’t] remember half the night. It was bizarre.”

Kyle Richards says she couldn’t rely on her marriage to keep her ‘safe and grounded’ amid a year of hardship

“Maybe there was a mix-up in the meal or the water or something. I don’t know. All I know is when I got home, I was like, what, something’s wrong with me,” Denise continued.

When Frankel, 53, asked her if she said anything she regretted during the comeback, she said: “I’m not even going to look at it because I’m sure I obviously made an ass of myself. So I said, why the hell would I look at myself like that? ”

As for the situation with Girardi, 52, Denise said she was trying to ask her why she was “such an a-hole.”

“I felt like I didn’t even have a place to start. So I kept saying to her, ‘Have you seen the show?’ Like, where do I start? It starts from the beginning of the season I was in until the end,” she said.

Denise Richards on her ‘Spur of the Moment’ return to ‘RHOBH’ taping: ‘It was really fun’

This is not the first time that Denise has spoken about her appearance in season 13 RHOBH. In April, she confirmed that Diversity that she “did some episodes” of the Bravo series, noting that it wasn’t planned, but that it was “fun” to be back.

“I’m a huge fan of the show, so it was fun to go back and shoot a lot of stuff with them,” she said. “It all happened in a hurry recently. I was on [Garcelle’s] looking like a friend — like a real friend — I didn’t tell anyone I’d be there. The production did not know. I just showed up, like, for real life, like a real friend in real life. The next day I was asked to go to some events – and it was so much fun.”

She also talked about her role in season 13, saying Diversity: “I feel like that didn’t pull me in. I was really myself on the show. And I think some women are different on camera and off camera. And I think you know what? Don’t produce yourself. Just be yourself. You get a group of six to eight [to] 10 women together, your drama will emerge, authentically. Leave it and have fun with it.”

Denise joined RHOBH in Season 9 airing in 2019 after she left after two seasons. At the time her exit was confirmed, Bravo producer and host Andy Cohen said on PeopleTV Reality check that Bravo “arranged a job with her and we could not agree on a job”.

Later speaking about her reason for leaving before season 11, Denise said she “went back and forth” before making her final decision. “I was a fan of the show and I had a lot of fun doing my first season. Obviously, my second season was very challenging,” she previously told Really. “I went back and forth with it and at the end of the day, I decided it was time to move on and focus on other projects I have. I’m glad I did it though.”
