Despite Reports, Lisa Kudrow Is Not Adopting Matthew Perry’s Dog Because He Didn’t Have One

Matthew Perry did not have a dog before his sudden death on Saturday.

Despite numerous reports indicating that the late actor’s dog will be adopted Friends Kosta Lisa Kudrow, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that she did not have a dog at the time of her death.

Perry was previously the dog father of a cartoon mix named Alfred, who he shared with ex Molly Hurwitz. The couple started dating in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020 before splitting in June 2021.

Since their split, Alfred has been a regular on Hurwitz’s Instagram. In a post in September, she opened up about her close relationship with the dog along with a series of photos.

“Alfred is three years old. He’s really annoying a lot of the time, but he really is the kindest potato. He came into my life during some dark depression and helped me get away from it. He’s also as cute as the fuck. Cheers to you, Alfredo 💕 #adoptdontshop,” she wrote.

On Monday, Hurwitz reflected on their time together, sharing a lengthy tribute on Instagram that no one had a “deeper impact” on her adult life than Perry.

Kudrow, 60, and her colleague Friends cast members — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — spoke about Perry’s death in a joint statement obtained exclusively by PEOPLE.

“We are all so completely devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than co-stars. We are family,” their statement read. “There is so much to say, but right now we will take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

Perry talked about the close relationship between them Friends actors, noting how they supported him amid his struggles with substance abuse in an interview for the October 2022 cover of PEOPLE.

They were understanding and patient, Perry said. “It’s like penguins. In nature, when one is sick or badly injured, other penguins surround it, support it and walk around until that penguin starts walking on its own. And that’s something the cast did for me.”

Perry’s death was confirmed in an exclusive statement shared with PEOPLE by the late actor’s family. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday that an autopsy has been completed and the results are pending a toxicology report.
