Deven Verma was born on Saturday, October 30, 1937 in Kutch, Gujarat (died aged 77). He grew up in Pune and studied at Norothy Givadia College of Arts and Sciences (University of Pune) from 1953 to 1957; he received an honors degree in political science and sociology from the college. According to reports, he also studied law at the Government College of Law, Bombay; however, he left midway.

After Dharamputra, I went abroad to do stage performances. Dharamputra failed. I was in Mauritius and Shashi (Kapoor) sent me a letter saying, “The photo failed and no one knows why.”

His comedy role in Chori Mera Kaam (1975) was a hit, earning him critical acclaim for his performance. He later appeared in a number of popular films and was critically acclaimed for his comedy roles, and by the 1970s he had become a well-known actor in Bollywood.
