Devin Haney Career

Seven national titles were won by Haney during his amateur career. He wasn’t the youngest winner of the Reno Youth World Championships until he was 17 years old. Before turning professional in 2015, he had a 138-8 amateur record.

Haney was unable to compete in the US after turning pro at the age of 17. His first four fights were therefore held there. As a local professional, he won the WBC Youth, IBF-USBA, IBF North American, WBC International, WBO Intercontinental, and WBA International lightweight titles.

After Vasiliy Lomachenko, the former WBC lightweight champion, was elevated to “Franchise Champion” by the WBC in October 2019, Haney became the sport’s youngest-ever world champion.

The following three defence matches for Devin Haney were against former three-weight world champion Jorge Linares, former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Alfredo Santiago (undercard of KSI vs. Logan Paul). The American boxer successfully defended his WBC lightweight title three times despite suffering an injury.

Haney has stated his wish to compete against the unified champion George Kambosos Jr. after defeating Joseph Diaz in his most recent fight on December 4, 2021. On June 5, 2022, the undisputed match was place, and Haney emerged victorious. As a result, he combined the WBC lightweight title with the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and Ring crowns in addition to handing Kambosos Jr. his first loss. The pair will square off again on October 16, 2022, at Melbourne, Australia’s Rod Laver Arena.
